North Macedonian customs authorities said it had seized a shipment of more than 13.5 tonnes of HFC refrigerant packed in illegal disposable cylinders from Greece. The shipment, which consisted of 1,150 cylinders, was found on a truck with Macedonian license plates at the border crossing in Bogorodica, on the Greek border.
The shipment was said to contain several types of HFC refrigerants. The photos show that these refrigerants include R404A, R407C and R507A, all of which appear to be "combined refrigerant" brand gas cylinders.
Although not a member of the European Union, North Macedonia has EU candidate status, and according to EU legislation, the country has banned the use of disposable (non-refillable) cylinders since 2015.
The goods have been seized and an unnamed individual and a "legal entity" are said to have been charged with the crime of illegal trade, punishable under the Criminal Code of North Macedonia.
